Known as chairside bleaching, in-office whitening treatments often take about 30 to 60 minutes and can sometimes continue over a few sessions. During the procedure, the dentist will place a protective gel or rubber shield over the patient’s teeth before applying the bleaching agent. The American Dental Association adds that the dentist will often use a special light or even a laser to enhance the effects of the agent. After completing the treatments, most dental patients find that their teeth are multiple shades whiter, particularly those who have yellow-stained teeth, as opposed to brown or gray tones.
